This Just In

SINCLAIR BROADCAST GROUP MAKES CONCESSION ON JOHN KERRY MOVIE. The Sinclair Broadcast Group has announced that they will only air a program based on an anti-Kerry documentary titled Stolen Honor: Wounds That Never Heal. The New York Times reports the network made the decision amid mounting criticism from Democrats and its own Washington bureau chief - who was promptly fired -- in addition to a 17-percent drop in its stock price. Sinclair's stations reach a quarter of U.S. households, many of which are in swing states. Instead, according to CNN.com, Sinclair will broadcast a film called A POW Story: Politics, Pressure and the Media that will include allegations against Kerry, but "in a broader discussion." Since this concession, Sinclair's stock price has taken a sharp up-tick.

I don't know what I can possibly pin it on, but something's got me taking things way too seriously lately. Some may say it's personal woes, others may say it's election anxiety, but either way, I'm inclined to take this with a big chunk of salt.

What most people are touting as a concession to the Dems sounds much more like a nifty little semantic adjustment to me. And does the 'sharp up-tick' mean that we've all fallen for it? Sinclair cuts the 'documentary' short, and suddenly the forces of Good have prevailed?

I've been staunchly advocating the Dems fight the Spin War much more shrewdly and effectively, and I think resting after a semi-retraction is a big mistake. Anyone who thinks this isn't still going to be a big hour-long Swift Boat ad is coo koo.

Or cuckoo.
