Plans for the Day
I had grand plans for today, including (but not limited to) reading and napping. Instead, I've spent my day puttering online, ripping CDs to my iPod, and organizing my bookmarks. I couldn't be any more content, really. It's the little things, right?
So now I'm sitting on the couch with my headphones on amid napping cats scattered all around. Have I mentioned how much I love my iPod? It's been an amazing force for me in the short week I've had it. You probably have heard me babble about my separation from my inner fan over the years. It has pained me. Really. There's nothing worse than finding yourself numb to a substance which used to sustain you. Well, that's an exaggeration - there are many worse things, I'm sure, but you get my drift. Imagine my excitement and stomach flutters, then, as I realized that I just wanted to zone out to music a few nights last week. It felt so great to melt into the couch in my own aural world, just me and the music. I've been stuck to "shuffle" mode - you know, just let the iPod dictate the play order of the whole library (mine has 1100 songs thus far). The joy of all joys has been how great it all sounds. With each new song I mutter something about wanting to switch from shuffle to that record, but then the next surprise cues up and I'm off on another musical tangent.
Speaking of tangents, how 'bout them Washington state recounts?
So, back to reading. Did I mention that I just wanted to read today? Oh yeah, I did. Well, I'm in literary limbo this week, still recovering from my weepy final moments with Jeffrey Eugenides' "Middlesex," which has become one of my fave books of all time. I started the book when we were in Mexico, and then had to pause in the name of school obligations. It was a I-don't-want-to-go-to-sleep, this-is-so-genius-I-feel-so-insignificant read. So now what? I start school anew on Wednesday and likely won't have much reading-for-fun time until spring. Sigh with me.
It's cold in Seattle right now. 43 degrees. Thought you might want to know.
Oh, and you should download Firefox. Hoo boy, it's a good'un.
Steve and I watched a few heartwarming movies last night. Stylized tales of infidelity and misery. Then the lo-fi telling of divers abandoned in a shark-frenzy. Oh, and a terrible, "Turn this shit off!" insult-to-our-intelligence Spielberg vehicle.
After all of that cinematic joy, I dreamed that Peter Krause told me he wanted to marry me. When I woke up I felt sorta guilty, like I had cheated on Steve.
Off to read. Or maybe I'll take that nap.

I organized stuff today, too... and it's -8° in MN right now. *shiver* ~ Manda
Is negative 8 even an actual temperature? I stand corrected!
